Meet Sam…

Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who isn't afraid to take ownership over their struggle. It's somebody who is dedicated to their healing process and is willing to let me into their world, even if just for a moment. My ideal client craves connection between their physical body, breath and brain and is ready to get playful as we explore.

Why do you like being a therapist?
It's the connection for me. Holding space and showing up for other humans is how I give back to my community - and at the end of the day, it's how I feel human. I love this work.

What's something you wish people knew about therapy?
It isn't always so serious! Sometimes it is, of course, but a lot of times the conversations tend to flow naturally into whatever is taking up space in that moment. My clients and I meditate together, move our bodies, write, draw, play, go for walks... We do anything and everything that feels right in the moment without any pressure to be a certain way. Another thing? I'm constantly doing "the work" for myself too! Believe me, your therapist doesn't have their "ish" together either! It's us moving into a clearer, more conscious lifestyle together, as a community. Observing habits/patterns/behaviors, reflecting on why they exist and being intentional with what comes next. You are not alone. We're a mess, together :) And that's perfectly okay!

Why can people benefit from therapy?
60 minutes of undivided attention to work through and better understand the everyday struggles... Yeah, we could all use a little therapy in our lives.

What does "success" in therapy look like to you?
Acceptance. It looks like stripping away the facade of who you thought you were or think you "should" be, and instead, giving yourself full permission to exist just exactly as you are. You are worthy of love, happiness, success, freedom and respect - always.

What's something you'd like clients to know about you (or how you work)?
I'm not afraid to get uncomfortable. I'm committed to helping my clients achieve their goals, but will challenge them every step of the way. My clients and I get really vulnerable. We let go of all of the BS so that they can more confidently step closer towards their most authentic sense of selves, in their own time. I work from a person-centered approach - always meeting my clients exactly where they're at, but with a little nudge to keep things interesting.

Describe your perfect Sunday:
Waking up slowly, consciously deciding PJ's all day, flirting with my husband as we prepare all the breakfast foods with our girls running around in the background - but, let's be real, more likely attached to me in some capacity. Add in a plunge in Lake Superior, a good hike and a warm beverage... Yeah, that's my happy.

A book that you think everyone should read:
‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz AND ‘Wild Power’ by Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Jugo Wurlitzer - if you are a woman, know a woman, are raising women please read this book!

If you weren’t a mental health professional, what would you be doing?
Oh, I don't know - probably guiding some sort of integrative movement/mindfulness retreat and then likely nauseating everyone else around me with discussions about feelings and systems work. You can't take the therapist out of the person.

Favorite quote?
"In the woods, we return to reason and faith." —Emerson

If you could make a rule for a day and everyone had to follow it, what would it be?
Say exactly how you feel when you feel it.
